State colleges: BYU volleyball wins home opener against Montana State

Provo • Tambre Haddock smashed 17 kills and Alexa Gray added 12 to help lead the BYU women's volleyball team to a 25-15, 25-19, 25-10 victory over Montana State in the Cougars' home opener Tuesday night.

Camry Godfrey had 40 assists and Tia Wither tallied 17 digs for the Cougars (5-3).

"I really liked what we did," BYU coach Shawn Olmstead said. "I thought we had a really nice team effort and put up some big numbers. I was glad we got a little tested in the second set and thought Montana adjusted really well and played well."

Utah State 3, Weber State 0 • In Ogden, Kaitlyn VanHoff had a game-high 12 kills and Rachel Orr tallied 10 kills and nine digs to help the Aggies win their home opener and their third straight match — 25-19, 25-12, 25-18.

Paige Neves had 38 assists and Utah State (6-2) outhit the Wildcats .416 to .099.

Samantha Staker hit a team-high eight kills and McKay Tarbox tallied 13 digs for Weber State (3-6), which has lost six straight games.
