Mickey Hart Band to explore brain in Park City this weekend

Spotlight Show • Shortly after a "profound" and "very emotional" show in Jerusalem, former Grateful Dead percussionist Mickey Hart and his band return to the U.S. to support Hart's wildly ambitious new album, "Superorganism," released in August. The album featured Hart wearing an EEG cap during the writing and recording, translating electrical impulses from his brain into audible frequencies, all the while watching a high-resolution video screen of his brain at work. As you can imagine, what goes on in Hart's brain is very rhythmic. During this show, Hart will wear the EEG cap for several songs. "You will see my brain in real time," he said. His previous album "Rhythms of the Universe" explored the sounds, so for this album Hart decided to research the other end of the spectrum — what goes on inside people's head. He said his new muse is "screaming" for him to do more work with scientists on the relationship between brains and music. "Now I'm able to see the map," Hart said. "I don't know what street it is. We haven't named it yet." Above all, Hart said: "A happy brain is a good brain." Tea Leaf Trio opens.
