An 11-month-old Latyon girl continued to cling to life Thursday after suffering from what doctors said was "shaken baby syndrome."

Layton Lt. Shawn Horton said the girl was stable but still in critical condition Thursday morning. She arrived at the Davis Hospital Tuesday after sustaining life-threatening injuries when her mother's boyfriend, a 25-year-old Layton man, allegedly shook her. She was later transferred to Primary Children's Medical Center. Doctors said she had injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

Layton detectives determined that the mother's boyfriend was at home with the baby when the injuries occurred. The mother was at work. Through a combination of evidence and statements from the man, detectives determined he had become frustrated with the baby's crying, shook her and threw her on the bed. The man then left the home with the baby, picked up his girlfriend at work and went to the hospital.

Police arrested the man and booked him into the Davis County Jail. His bail was set at $50,000, cash or bond. Horton said the man had bailed out by Thursday morning.
