Back to normalcy

When I reached voting age in the 1950s, there were several reliable outcomes in every election:

1. Earl Warren would win the nominations of both parties in every California election he entered.

2. When Republicans won the White House, the economy would soon be in recession.

3. When Democrats won, we would soon be at war.

Much has changed since. The Democrats have become peaceniks by comparison, while the Republicans, under the younger Bush, have gotten us into recession and wars.

This year, President Obama is taking steps to lead us back to normalcy by pushing toward war with a country that clearly is not America's worst enemy in the world.

Isn't normalcy wonderful?
