A body was found Friday afternoon in the Virgin River in Washington city.
A passer-by was at the river near 2200 East off Washington Dam Road about 4 p.m. when he noticed what appeared to be a body in the river.
Officers found the victim but could not immediately determine the person's sex, age, identity or cause of death due to the body's condition, said Washington City police spokesman Ed Kantor.
Investigators believe the body was carried by the river into Washington from an unknown point upstream, Kantor said.
Medical examiners are conducting an autopsy for more information about the victim.
