Utah State football: Aggies get 70-6 win over Weber State

Logan • The Aggies wanted a flawless game against Weber State. With a 70-6 blowout win on Saturday night, they came awfully close.

Utah State moved down the field at will and bottled up the Wildcats to take a commanding lead early The Aggies scored on their first seven possessions, while holding Weber State without a first down until late in the second quarter.

The second half didn't go much better for the Wildcats, who allowed three touchdowns by the Aggies to close out one of the biggest wins in program history. Utah State improved to 2-1 ahead of two tough road games against USC and San Jose State.

Chuckie Keeton once again drove the offense in the first half, going 19 for 25 for 249 yards while tying his career high with five passing touchdowns in the game. His arm helped the Aggies convert their first eight third-down chances, and he threw touchdowns to four different receivers, with two to tight end D.J. Tialavea.

Utah State scored 21 points before the end of the first quarter, starting every first quarter possession at their own 40 or closer. The run game was also a big factor, as Joey DeMartino led with 107 yards and three touchdowns, both career highs.

The Aggies defense was similarly dominant, hold Weber State to only 30 yards in the first half. The Wildcats only first down didn't come until less than three minutes remained in the half.

Weber State moved the ball more freely in the second half, but only managed to score with 50 seconds left after Spencer Unga returned a Utah State fumble. Only once did the Wildcats cross into Utah State territory on offense.
