Who is Lee protecting?

Re "Cruz, Lee say they will stand firm to the end in Obamacare fight," (Tribune, Sept. 14), Sen. Mike Lee is adamant about not funding the Affordable Care Act "in order to protect people from something that could be very harmful for them... ."

Who are these people? The ones who could not get health care due to a pre-existing condition? Or those who could not change jobs because they would lose their health insurance? Or who had their insurance cut off because their health issues had already cost the insurance company too much money? Or people who are financially ruined because of the cost of medical treatment? Or people who cannot afford drugs because the bill Congress passed does not allow negotiating with drug companies?

Or people who are working, sometimes more than one job, but their jobs do not provide healthcare and the cost of buying it on their own is prohibitive? Or families on food stamps who can't afford health insurance?

Who are the people Lee is protecting? Requiring even "healthy" people to have insurance is not unreasonable. No one knows when he/she might require health care.
