A condominium fire caused about $250,000 damage early Monday in Murray.

Smoke detectors awoke a sleeping couple about 1 a.m. at 1486 E. 6015 South, said Murray Fire spokesman Russ Groves. The man went to the window to discover the garage was engulfed in flames.

The couple and the occupants of the adjacent condo evacuated the building. The garage fire spread to the attics of the two condos.

"As fast as that got spread through the attic, it was a great stop by the [crews] who put the fire out," Groves said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
