A 43-year-old Murray man will spend a year in jail after admitting that while drunk he used his RV to hit a group of teenagers in a Washington City parking lot.

Nickolas Michael May pleaded guilty in June to two counts of aggravated assault, one a second-degree felony and the other a third-degree felony, and one count of third-degree felony DUI.

On Tuesday, a 5th District judge ordered May to spend one year in jail followed by 36 months of probation. May was also ordered to pay restitution to the victims.

In plea-agreement documents, May admitted that on May 23, 2012, he drove his motor home into a 16-year-old and hit the parked SUV the youths were standing beside. Witnesses told police that the RV's awning pole fell on the boy, pinning him against the RV.

May admitted he drank 13 beers before the incident at a Walmart parking lot. May offered no explanation or reason for driving towards the children.

The young adults told police that they were talking in the parking lot when they watched May start driving his light-colored RV toward them, according to a probable cause statement filed in court. The youths told police May was smiling and laughing as he drove straight at them.

May was originally charged with one count of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; three more counts of aggravated assault, all third-degree felonies; driving under the influence, a third-degree felony; causing an accident involving injury or death, a class A misdemeanor; and reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor.
