Cache County, state and U.S. Forest Service crews were battling a wildfire Tuesday in Blacksmith Fork Canyon.

The fire, dubbed the North Cottonwood Fire, is about 12 miles east of Hyrum, said Kathy Jo Pollock, of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Investigators aren't sure what sparked the blaze in the timber and brush, but as of Tuesday night it had burned 80 acres on state, Forest Service and private lands, said fire spokesman Jason Winn.

The flames had threatened some power lines and seasonal trailer homes on the west side of the fire, but crews were able to contain that side, Winn.

A helicopter, three engines, three squads of five to six people each and two hotshot crews were fighting the fire. Crews took cover about 7 p.m. because of a thunderstorm, Winn said.

"We're pretty confident with the rain and the work they did today, it's not going anywhere," Winn said.
