Utah Crowd-Funding: The Royal (Bliss) treatment

Welcome to a new feature on The Cricket blog, highlighting a crowd-funding campaign in Utah each week.

The first campaign to be spotlighted is by our old friends, Royal Bliss, the hard-rocking Salt Lake City band that's gone national but hasn't forgotten its hometown — even opening a bar here, The Royal.

Royal Bliss has gone to Kickstarter to raise $25,000 to record its next album.

"We have been independent, signed to a major label, an indie label, and now, on our new record, we want YOU to be our label," the band wrote on its Kickstarter page. "We want to make a record that involves you, the fan, since you are the reason why we are still here."

The money would pay for studio time, recording engineers, mixing and mastering, CD duplication and distribution.

Benefits for donors range from "good karma" (for a $1 pledge) to Taylor Richards' actual acoustic guitar and a backyard performance by the band (for a $7,000 pledge).

The campaign started Sept. 12, and runs through Oct. 12. So far, the campaign has raised $4,491 of its goal.
