Salt Lake students: Could you be the next TV food star?

Budding chefs could get a chance at TV stardom at Salt Lake Community College, where a production company is seeking prospective culinary students for a reality show about their first semester.

They're looking for "charismatic people who have relatable personal stories — inspirational, motivational, stories of redemption, or just people who have overcome challenges in their lives to chase their dream of culinary school," said Jen Cipperly, a casting associate producer with New York City-based Punched in the Head productions.

You must be a student at the college or plan to be one. To apply, send an email to culinarycasting@punchedinthehead.com with a name, age, two photos and a description of the student's path to culinary school. The deadline is Monday.

Producers will choose four students at schools around the country to follow starting before classes begin next semester. The final program will weave together their stories as well as the variety of regional foods.

The project is an outgrowth of The Freshman Class on the Cooking Channel, an eight-part series about four aspiring chefs' first semester at Louisiana Culinary Institute in Baton Rouge.

"We don't know what the final locations will be," Cipperly said. "We are looking all over the country, reaching out to schools and communities, so we'll hopefully find some great students."
