Lee makes a mockery of the system

The childish attempt of Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee and an increasing number of other Republicans to shut down the government rather than fund the Affordable Care Act sets a dangerous precedent. If it works once, why not try it any time you disagree with an act of Congress?

Don't like money being spent for school breakfast? Refuse to OK the budget that will fund the rest of government, too. Oppose government subsidies for hybrid cars? Deny funding for everything else to keep money from being spent for those.

If the current proposals to reduce funding for food stamps don't pass, hey, just hold up the budget process hoping to get your way. What a colossal waste of time!

The ACA is the law of the land. Congress has an obligation to fund the laws it has passed. I agree with those who think the Republicans fear that it will succeed and President Obama will get the credit. Instead of trying to keep this from happening by shutting down the government, why not let it go into effect?

If there are problems, they can be fixed. If it doesn't work (and I think it will), you will be proven right and we will have to try something else. The obstructionists solve nothing and make a mockery of the process by which laws are passed and take effect.
