If anyone had doubts about the point expressed in Ed Firmage Jr.'s letter to the editor, "Jesus easy to like," (Forum, Sept. 4), questioning the religious following of the GOP, I think the proof is in today's Tribune. Didn't take long.

On Page A6 of the Sept. 20 Tribune, the headline reads "House votes to cut $4 B a year from food stamps." Ironically, this amount is the same as the subsidies given to the oil companies every year! Tells you who butters the GOP bread, doesn't it?

The House bill includes testing food stamp recipients for drugs. Similarly, the bill should test oil executives for drug use. After all, didn't Richard Pryor say "Cocaine use is God's way of saying you make too much money"?
