Salt Lake City woman dies in collision near Heber

A medical condition may be responsible for a crash that killed a Salt Lake City woman Friday morning near Heber.

Edyth Diane Zito, 74, was headed west on US-40 about 11 a.m. when she drove into oncoming traffic and hit a Ford Ranger head-on, according to Utah Department of Public Safety spokesman Joe Dougherty. Zito was driving a Toyota Corolla and the accident happened at a bend in the road near Strawberry Reservoir.

Dougherty said the crash may have been promoted by a medical condition Zito suffered from, though he did not have additional information about that condition.

Crews pronounced Zito dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 53-year-old man from Midway, suffered only minor injuries and was taken to Heber Valley Medical Center. Dougherty said the man was in fair condition.

The accident forced authorities to close the road for about an hour Friday morning.
