Utah forecast: Cold front will give summer the boot

Stephen King might pen northern Utah's midweek forecast by noting that fall has arrived, "kicking summer out on its treacherous" behind.

The horror genre author might even observe, as he did in "Salem's Lot," that the region's cooler temperatures and sunny, bracing breezes are due to stay "a while like an old friend [to] fill the afternoon with stories of places he has been and things he has done since last he saw you."

Daytime temperatures along the Wasatch Front Wednesday will dip into the mid-60s, down 20 degrees from Tuesday's forecast. Winds of 15-25 mph are expected by Wednesday afternoon, along with possible rain showers.

Indeed, the National Weather Service noted there was a good chance for snow in the region's mountains above 7,000 feet elevation.

Southern Utahns will enjoy a mild, lingering summer-like forecast with highs in the upper-80s to low-90s.

The Utah Division of Air Quality has issued "Green," or healthy breathability grades statewide, while the Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website rated only sagebrush, at "very high," as elevated on its pollen index.

Salt Lake City expected a high on 65 after Tuesday's forecast for 85 degrees; Ogden looked for 60 and 81 degrees, respectively; Provo 68 and 82; Logan 55 and 80; Wendover 61 and 79; Duchesne 70 and 72; Cedar City 73 and 77; St. George 85 and 90; and Moab 83 and 82 degrees.
