Police have arrested a 44-year-old man in the weekend robbery of a Chase Bank branch in southeastern Salt Lake County.

Unified Police Det. Jared Richardson said Tuesday that the suspect, who allegedly used a handgun to rob the bank at 6275 South Highland Drive on Saturday afternoon, was taken into custody Monday night after a short foot chase.

Monday afternoon police spotted the suspect's vehicle, a maroon Honda Accord, at the KOA campground at 1400 West North Temple in Salt Lake City. UPD officers and Salt Lake City police set up surveillance in the area.

Detectives learned that the suspect had a hotel room at the nearby Overnighter Hotel, and spotted him in the hotel's parking lot about 8:45 p.m. When approached by officers, the man ran but was quickly captured.

The suspect was booked into Salt Lake County Jail, where he remained Tuesday without bail on two felony counts of robbery.
