New leader for Salt Lake Community Action Program

Cathy C. Hoskins, executive director of the Salt Lake Community Action Program (SLCAP), will retire Nov. 1 after leading the charity for more than 10 years.

Erin Trenbeath-Murray, who has been serving as the deputy director, will take on the lead role. She has also been serving as the director of Salt Lake CAP Head Start.

SLCAP is a not-for-profit organization with programs aimed at helping low-income people become self-sufficient. Due to budget constraints, it recently shortened the hours of its food pantries.

The chairwoman of its board, Stephanie White, said in a statement: "On behalf of The Salt Lake CAP Board of Trustees, I want to thank Cathy Hoskins for her many years of service, wish her well in her future endeavors and welcome Erin Trenbeath-Murray to her new role at Salt Lake Community Action Program."

Trenbeath-Murray has been a preschool and kindergarten teacher; the director of a preschool and child care center; an early childhood specialist for the Davis County Head Start Program and an instructor for the Department of Family and Consumer Studies at the University of Utah.

She has a bachelor's degree in family and child development and a master's degree in family ecology. She was named to Utah Business Magazine's 30 Women to Watch in May. In June she was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the Social Entrepreneurship Category for her work developing the Head Start Central Kitchen, which provides 2,000 healthy nutritious meals a day to children living in poverty and is bringing revenue back into the Head Start program.
