Park City police have stepped up patrols in response to a rash of recent "smash and grab" vehicle break-ins.
Police Capt. Phil Kirk reports that officers in cruisers and unmarked cars, on bicycles and on foot have been vigilant in trying to catch the perpetrators, but so far have yet to make arrests.
"It's one of the tougher crimes to solve. There is some randomness to it," Kirk told the Park Record newspaper.
Most of the cases including four break-ins on Sept. 14-15 alone involved smashing of a window to gain quick access to vehicles, which then were looted of cash, cell phones and car stereos.
The break-ins, at various locations in the city, have occurred for the past month.
Anyone with information on the case can call Park City police at 435-615-5505 or anonymously text trips to 274-637 (Crimes) with the keyword PCPDTIP.
