A teenage girl remained in critical condition but her vital signs reportedly were improving on Tuesday, three days after she suffered extensive head injuries in a Utah County all-terrain vehicle crash.
Utah County sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said Deborah Benedict, 17, of Hobble Creek Canyon, still had a long recovery ahead of her, but he said he understood she had been "largely stabilized."
Benedict was riding on an ATV about 5:45 p.m. Sunday with two other teenagers, a boy and girl, when it crashed in the Left Hand Fork area of the canyon. The ATV slid about 100 feet before coming to a stop.
Benedict's companions escaped with minor injuries.
Speed was likely a factor in the crash, but alcohol and drugs were not believed to have been involved.
