A state wildlife officer died in a traffic crash Tuesday in Wyoming.
Keith Fullenkamp was driving home from a hunting trip in Colorado about 1 p.m. when he crashed somewhere between the town of Baggs and Interstate 80, said Mike Fowlks, deputy director of the Utah Department of Wildlife Resources.
Fullenkamp was a sergeant supervising several conservation officers in the northern region of the state, Fowlks said.
Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were investigating the crash on Tuesday night.
As a wildlife officer, Fullenkamp was instrumental in organizing several community and youth events, including a waterfowl fair Sept. 7 at Farmington Bay, Fowlks said. More than 650 people attended.
"Getting youth involved in hunting, fishing and shooting sports is absolutely critical for the future of wildlife conservation," Fullenkamp said in a press statement released just Monday.
Fowlks described Fullenkamp as a "talented and dedicated wildlife officer."
"He absolutely loved showing kids how great wildlife was," Fowlks said.
