In the 1990s I was uninsured and uninsurable because of a pre-existing condition, hemochromotosis (iron overload).
Upon eligibility for Medicare, I became insurable notwithstanding my pre-existing genetic condition.
To my surprise Medicare was not major-medical coverage, there was a "cap" on benefits. When the payout for a medical problem reached a certain figure, I would no longer receive benefits, I would be on my own.
Thankfully, Obamacare removed the "cap," partially upon signing in 2011 and fully effective Jan. 1, 2014. Since a significant portion of bankruptcies are for medical debts, this law should greatly help in protecting my assets and everyone's assets. We will no longer be financially vulnerable to a medical insurance industry drive-by shooting.
The removal of caps on benefits and the removal of "uninsurability" for any reason are extremely important to me. I am eagerly waiting for Jan. 1, 2014.
