Green River fishing report - Streamer time for big fish on your Bucket List

Green River Fly Fisher, also known as Ryan Kelly, sent in this report for fishing on the Green below Flaming Gorge Dam. Better eat these reports up. With snow on the mountains it is only a matter of time before he heads of for his winter job.

With the first snowfall of the year occurring as I write it would seem Fall has fallen upon the Green. Other indicators are also about.

Small BWO's, fish starting to eat eggs, late season crickets chirping and being eaten, and some good moments on the streamers.

We had a double "Utah Bucket List" moment today (great show by the way) as we went back to back big browns on the C section. According to host Brett Prettyman, C section browns are on the Bucket List within the Bucket List. On that note, the lower river has been blown for the last couple of weeks and will likely be blown again as rain and snow continues to fall. We had a less than probable moment today when the gentleman in the front of the boat hooked a fish and it ran upstream into the line of the gentleman in the back. His flies snagged the back of the fish. Now we had a header and heeler. Then the fly that was in the mouth came out and the gentleman in the back finished the fight. Can't say you see that one every day.

Catch rates have been more moderate as the river has been very busy the last couple of weeks. Add in a lot of bad weather and wary, late season fish, and your skills can be tested. This is a great time of year though as the crowds start to dissipate, bigger fish can be found. We caught a fish with a six inch fish in it. I guess you could say we were matching the hatch.
