Overnight temperatures dipping below freezing and snowstorms were predicted in the mountains this weekend throughout Utah.
Wasn't summer just a couple weeks ago, with temperatures in the 80s and 90s? And doesn't the calendar say it's early autumn?
Instead, the National Weather Service says to bundle up and be careful out there. Forecasters issued a Winter Weather Advisory into Friday evening for the Wasatch Front from Logan running south through Ogden, Salt Lake City and Provo to Nephi.
Indeed, light snow was falling in southwest Salt Lake County's Herriman early Friday afternoon.
Northeastern Utah's eastern Uinta mountains, including the towns of Dutch John and Manila, were put under a Winter Storm Warning into Friday night as well. Up to 8 inches of snow were predicted.
Meanwhile, the areas roughly from Vernal south to Fort Duchesne and Randlett were targeted for a Freeze Watch overnight into mid-Saturday morning; a Hard Freeze Warning was issued for southwestern Utah, including Beaver, Cedar City and Milford, also extending to mid-Saturday morning.
Salt Lake City's high temperature on Saturday was to hit just 59 degrees, though that was a few degrees higher than Friday's high of 52 degrees; Ogden looked for 64 and 55 degrees; Provo 68 and 54; Logan 63 and 54; Wendover 67 and 58; Duchesne 59 and 51; Cedar City 66 and 55; St. George 79 and 71; and Moab 79 and 65 degrees.
