September ends with warm weather, cloudy skies

The last day of September should be a treat: warm weather and patchy clouds, all before temperatures drop in October.

The National Weather Service predicts highs in the mid to upper 70s along the Wasatch Front Monday. The morning will be mostly cloudy, though some of that cover will burn off in the afternoon.

In southern Utah, highs Monday should peak in the mid 80s and skies will be clear.

But the balmy weather won't last. In northern Utah, temperatures will drop a few degrees every day beginning Tuesday or Wednesday. By Thursday, forecasters expect thunderstorms along with highs in the mid 50s. The cooler temperatures will be the result of a cold, Pacific storm system. By Friday, benches and foothills could be receiving snow.

Temperatures will drop less dramatically in southern Utah and should remain in the 70s later in the week.

The Utah Division of Air Quality expects good conditions throughout the state Monday and Tuesday.

Salt Lake City's high temperatures were pegged at 79 Monday and 78 on Tuesday; Ogden expected 75 and 74, respectively; Provo 77 and 78 degrees; Logan 70 and 72; Wendover 75s; Duchesne 70 and 72; Cedar City 74s; St. George 85 and 87; and Moab 81 and 85 degrees.
