Man doing better after losing arm when FrontRunner hit him

A man whose arm was severed by a commuter train was improving Monday, police said.
The man, who is in his 20s, had improved from critical to serious condition three days after the Friday accident in Salt Lake City, police wrote in a news release. The man was listening to music on headphones when he approached a freight train parked near 1700 South and 700 West about 7:48 a.m., police wrote.
The man hopped over the coupling between two freight cars and continued jogging east, police wrote. He apparently did not see or hear the northbound FrontRunner train, which hit him.
The man lost his right arm and "gravely injured" his right leg, police wrote. He underwent surgery and was expected to survive.
