Ogden police investigate early morning shooting

Ogden detectives are trying to find whoever shot and wounded a man Tuesday morning and whether it's connected to two other shootings in the past few weeks.

At 3:19 a.m., police were dispatched to 259 29th Street on the report of a shooting to find a man in his 30s lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound, according to a police news release.

He was taken to Ogden Regional Medical Center and is currently in critical condition.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division and Ogden-Metro Gang Unit are working the case. Lt. Danielle Croyle, who heads the major crimes division, said detectives are looking into whether this has any connection to the death of 26-year-old Robert Santos Soto Jr. on Aug. 31., or another shooting in the city two days later.

After witnesses reported hearing an argument and gunshots in the 1700 block of Lincoln Avenue, officers were dispatched at 1:18 a.m. and found Soto dead on the sidewalk from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a news release at the time.

Soto lived in the block where he died.

On Sept. 2, Ogden police said a 911 call reporting gunfire came in at about 9:30 p.m. While officers were responding to the area of 200 24th Street, dispatchers notified them that a gunshot victim had been brought into the emergency room of McKay-Dee Hospital.

Officers went to the hospital and learned the male victim — whose identity was not released — had suffered three gunshot wounds while in the area of 24th Street and Lincoln Avenue.

No suspects had been taken into custody, Croyle said at the time, but added that "we don't believe this to have been random. We believe this victim was targeted."
