U.S. Soccer Federation nixes local TV replay of RSL-D.C. United USOC final

It will be almost impossible to see the U.S. Open Cup final live on TV, for which we can thank the U.S. Soccer Federation's lack of foresight.

There will also be no replay of the game on local TV, for which we can also think the USSF — for reasons that are pretty much impossible to understand.

As reported here last week, the USSF, which controls the U.S. Open Cup, signed a three-year deal with GolTV for the rights to the tournament final. And then GolTV proceeded to pretty much collapse.

It would appear the only way anybody in Utah can watch Real Salt Lake battle D.C. United is on a standard definition, Spanish-language channel that's included in some of the satellite TV provider's Spanish-language programming packages. If you happen to have that package.

RSL and the folks at Ch. 30 thought they had a deal to replay the game tonight at 10 p.m. They were set to announce it when USSF stepped in an nixed the deal, without explanation.

Fans are frustrated. Real Salt Lake is frustrated. Channel 30 is frustrated.

USSF has not explained it decision to anyone involved.

If there's a good reason for it, it's a mystery.
