Games of the Week

Brighton at Bingham • You want a test, Bengals? You got it. Brighton (6-0) has a chance to further assert itself in Region 3 with what likely will be its toughest game of the 2013 season. The Bengals know Bingham, and Bingham knows the Bengals. Having run wild over Alta last week, Osa Masina and Co. will face arguably the most talented defense in the state. Bingham (6-0) has looked the part as the best team in 5A this season.

Jordan at Alta • Two powerhouses looking up at Brighton and Bingham face off for a shot to climb the Region 3 standings. The Beetdiggers are coming off a trouncing of Copper Hills, and Alta's defense ran into Osa Masina last week. Can Austin Kafentzis continue his torrid offensive pace against an Alta team coming off a brutally tough schedule? Expect offense. Lots of it.

Dixie at Desert Hills • Dixie beat Pine View, which handed Desert Hills its first loss of 2013 last week. The Flyers are out to make that a losing streak for the Thunder, and they certainly have the capability of putting a very good Desert Hills defense on its heels at times. Ammon Takau has been superb for Dixie, but the Thunder defense, which surrounded only one touchdown last week, undoubtedly is ready to stop thinking of Pine View.

Players to Watch

Xequille Harry, jr., Woods Cross, WR • Going into this season, Woods Cross coach Justin Spencer said the Wildcats would need Harry to step up and become an active threat offensively. He's done that, establishing himself as one of the top versatile offensive threats in 4A this season. A matchup between Harry and Highland DB Ben Bergeson should be a treat.

Connor Aste, sr., Manti, QB • Aste, one of the most talented and veteran quarterbacks in 3A, has looked every bit the part early this season. The Templars are 5-1 and Aste has thrown for 707 yards and 10 touchdown, while also rushing for 230 yards. He'll have to be on top of his game against a formidable Richfield team.

Once again, it's the Darts

After West tied Davis for the most victories in Utah high school football lore, the Darts are back on top with 556 wins in program history. Davis is off to a phenomenal 6-0 start, has allowed just 35 points in six games but have a bye week this weekend. West can tie Davis with a win at home over Hunter.

Big number

Per prep football brain George Felt, Olympus' Coleman Meier had 419 all-purpose yards in the Titans' 49-20 win over Orem, which is eighth-most in Utah football history. Meier had 225 yards rushing, 7 yards receiving and 157 return yards, which included a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Duchesne's streak cracks top 5

For all the state titles, winning streaks and emphatic victories over the last few seasons, the Duchesne Eagles are being recognized on a national scale for their dominance on the gridiron. Per, the Eagles hold the fifth-longest winning streak in the nation with 39. Regina (Iowa City, Iowa) owns the top spot with 47 consecutive wins. —
