Joint federal, local law raid Ute Indian reservation drug house

A multi-agency law enforcement drug raid targeting a residence on the Ute Indian Tribe's Uintah and Ouray Reservation resulted in two arrests.

Vernal police Lt. Keith Campbell confirmed Friday that Thursday's raid on the house in Duchesne County also brought seizures of an unspecified amount of drugs, drug paraphernalia, stolen property and numerous firearms.

The investigation and service of a search warrant was carried out by agents of the FBI and Bureau of Indian Affairs along with sheriff's deputies and police officers from Duchesne and Uintah counties.

A 55-year-old man and his 54-year-old wife, both members of the Ute Indian Tribe, were booked into Duchesne County Jail. Campbell said they face charges in both U.S. District and tribal courts.

Further details on the investigation and raid itself were not available. The FBI, as lead agency, normally would handle release of information on the case, but Salt Lake City FBI spokeswoman Patsy Speelman advised reporters that "due to the government shutdown, we are not able to release any information until further notice unless it is directly related to public safety."
