My wife and I leave next week to fulfill a long overdue family mission. We plan to lay a wreath, say a prayer and give thanks to Ken Hatcher for his sacrifice to preserve democracy and freedom in the world.

Ken was my mother-in-law's first husband. He is buried at the American Cemetery in Normandy, France.

Others visiting their loved ones this week so far away in Normandy cannot do so. The cemetery is closed due to the government shutdown. Imagine traveling that far to be stopped at the cemetery gate. It may be our fate next week.

Now all six members of Utah's congressional delegation, led by tantrum-throwing Mike Lee, are trying to kill a law passed by Congress, signed by the president and upheld by the Supreme Court.

Mike Lee can't even pay his personal bills. He abandoned his millionaire's mansion in Alpine, sticking the lender with his bad debt. Now he knows best for the country?

Lee and the other five couldn't carry Ken Hatcher's canteen.
