Sophomore Katie Rigby scored her first career goal in the 70th minute as the Utah women's soccer team beat Oregon 1-0 in a Pac-12 game Friday at Ute Field.
Rigby scored on a header off a free kick from Katie Taylor, and Utah improved to 5-1-5 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference.
Utah goalie Lindsey Luke made three saves to earn the win.
Utah had a 12-7 edge on shots in the match.
BYU 2, Baylor 1 • In Waco, Texas, Colette Jepson Smith's goal in the 72nd minute lifted the No. 25-ranked Cougars (6-3-1) to the victory over No. 20 Baylor. Cloee Colohan scored in the 30th minute to give BYU (6-3-1) a 1-0 lead, and also assisted on Jepson Smith's game-winner.
Southern Utah 2, Weber State 1 • In Cedar City, Sydney Cook scored in the 85th minute to give the Thunderbirds the win. Lana Willard scored in the 49th minute to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, before SUU's Megan Mower scored the equalizer two minutes later. SUU goalkeeper Elyssa Hashimoto made two saves while earning the win.
Idaho 1, Utah Valley 0 • In Orem, the Wolverines held a 21-11 edge in shots but lost the match on an 80th-minute goal.
Volleyball
Utah 3, Washington State 2 • Erin Redd-Brandon registered a season-high 16 kills as the Utes beat the Cougars 25-17, 25-14, 20-25, 24-26, 15-8 in a Pac-12 match at the Huntsman Center.
The Ute defense posted a season-high 104 digs, which came up five shy of tying the school record of 109 against Santa Clara on Sept. 21, 1996.
Utah (13-2, 2-1 Pac-12) improved to 4-1 in five-set matches this season.
Cross-country
In South Bend, Ind., Natalie Shields led the BYU women's team to a fourth-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational. Shields placed 15th in the 5K race in a time of 17 minutes, 27.92 seconds.
Southern Utah's men raced to a ninth-place team finish. Ryan Barrus led the Thunderbirds by finishing 21st on the 5-mile course in 24:50.9.
• In Cedar City, Utah Valley swept the men's and women's team titles at the Color Country Invitational. UVU's Jason Lynch finished third in the men's 6K race in 19:42.80, and Darian Sharp (15:17.40) finished second in the women's 5K race.
Montana 3, Weber State 1 • In Ogden, Rebecca Fuchs' team-high 12 kills couldn't prevent the Wildcats' Big Sky Conference loss, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18.
