It's easy for mentally ill to get guns

In the letter published Sept. 25 Gary Mudrock states, "The killers are the mentally disturbed and criminals who have obtained guns illegally."
Guess what, Gary? Aaron Alexis bought his Remington 870 shotgun legally before he slaughtered people at the Washington Navy Yard. Other killers have done the same.
Locally, any mentally ill person or criminal can go to the South Towne Convention Center in Sandy at least once a month to a gun show and buy any gun they want without even getting a background check.
Why buy a gun illegally when we make it so easy to buy them legally? We need some commonsense gun laws to make it at least difficult for criminals and the mentally ill to buy guns.
