When deputies in Wasatch and Summit counties arrested two people last week in connection to a series of vehicle thefts, they found a police officer's gun and badge that had been stolen more than a week earlier in Roy.
The gun, badge and a tactical vest were found after investigators on Friday searched the Summit County home of a burglary suspect arrested on suspicion of stealing credit, debit and gift cards from a car at Deer Creek, said Wasatch County sheriff's Deputy Rick Keel. A second suspect also was arrested, Keel said.
Roy police spokesman Bryce Weir said the items were stolen "one to two weeks ago" from a detective's unmarked car, which was briefly parked in a lot in Weber County. Weir said investigators sent notice to law enforcement statewide, but did not make a public announcement of the theft.
The two suspects have since admitted to being involved in thefts in Orem, Salt Lake County and elsewhere in Summit County, Keel said.
