Utah is in the top third of states affected by the shutdown of the federal government, according to a report released by a personal finance website Tuesday.

The state ranked No. 14 on the list, which took into account concentration of federal employees and contracts as well as people at risk of losing key funding from federal agencies, including students, small business owners, senior citizens and veterans, according to WalletHub.com

"Ironically enough, WalletHub concluded that states won by the Republican Party in the 2012 presidential election could be hit disproportionately hard by a prolonged government shutdown," the company said in a statement.

Virginia ranked No. 1 on the list, which included all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia, while Iowa was ranked as least-affected.
