A man found dead in a South Salt Lake home with a small fire burning nearby has been identified, but how he died remains a mystery for now.
South Salt Lake Fire Chief Kevin Bowman on Wednesday identified the victim as 37-year-old Andrew Kay Davis.
Davis was found dead inside the residence at 362 E. Utopia Ave. Monday night by his girlfriend who then called 911.
Bowman said preliminary investigation was unable to determine if Davis had been overcome by smoke from the small fire, which was on a table in a basement bedroom where firefighters and paramedics found the body.
There was no signs of obvious trauma on the body, tentatively ruling out foul play. Neither was Davis thought to have been depressed or suicidal, and he was believed to have been in good health.
Bowman said an official cause of death will await results from an autopsy and forensic testing, probably not available until next week at the earliest.
Davis' girlfriend, concerned he was not answering his phone earlier Monday, found his body when she went to the house about 7 p.m. Monday.
