The Wednesday night slate of high school football games in Utah might be light, but that doesn't mean there aren't some intriguing matchups. Here are three worth keeping an eye on.
Lehi at American Fork
The Pioneers are coming off a 50-point effort that featured two of its players rushing for more than 200 yards. And the Pioneers lost. That's right, the Pioneers set a state record for most points scored in a losing effort a 71-50 setback to Riverton.
The Cavemen downed Herriman 38-36 last week and have won five of their last six. American Fork will try to stay atop the Region 4 standings (it's tied with Riverton), while the Pioneers attempt to climb back to .500 in region.
Lone Peak at Timpview
Lone Peak has won its last two games after a two-game losing streak, but the Knights face a difficult test when they travel to Timpview.
The Thunderbirds have been on a roll, winning their last four games by a combined 186-31. But the defense will be tested against Knights QB Baron Gajkowski, a Utah State commit.
Salem Hills at Springville
Speaking of Region 8 teams, Salem Hills and Springville meet in a battle of squads trying to stay within shouting distance of Timpview. Both teams already fell to the Thunderbirds Salem Hills a 40-7 setback, while Springville fell 35-0.
Dylan Slavens has thrown for 1,082 yards and 16 TDs to lead the Springville offense. Salem Hills also likes to throw the ball. Porter Gustin has passed for 1,248 yards and 13 scores, while Chad Peterson has added 261 yards and five TDs for the Skyhawks, according to maxpreps.com.
