A Cedar City man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly attacked a man, critically injuring him, and tried to head butt and kick police officers.

The suspect was outside an apartment complex near 500 South and 75 West about 8:12 a.m. on Wednesday, when officers arrived to investigate a reported assault, police wrote in a press statement.

The man approached police, who noticed blood on his hand. The man ignored their warnings to stop, so they arrested him, police wrote. While they were detaining the man, he lashed out at them, kicking and head-butting, police wrote.

Officers then found a man lying on the sidewalk. He had serious injuries, including a large cut on his head, police wrote.

The victim was taken to a Cedar City hospital and later flown in critical condition to a Las Vegas hospital.

Police did not indicate how the man was injured. The suspect was booked in jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault on a police officer, interference with arrest and a traffic violation.
