Park City sat in a familiar place after Day 1 of the Class 3A boys' golf state tournament.

But just barely.

The Miners, who have won the last five state championships, carded a 302 for a one-stroke lead over Desert Hills at Mountain Dell Golf Course on Wednesday.

Mitch Schow, who finished fifth last year, led the Miners with a tournament-low 69.

Taylor Cummings paced the Thunder with a 73.

Dixie also was in the mix with a 306 after the first round of the two-round tournament, which concludes Thursday.

Brayden Ward's 78 helped Grand County to a one-stroke lead over Manti at the 2A tournament at Palisade Golf Course.

Kody Quarnberg led the Templars with a 77.

Layton Christian's Jaece Stokes carded the low score of the day, a 70. —
