A 54-year-old man was reported in satisfactory condition after being hit by a car in South Salt Lake early Thursday morning.

A public safety dispatcher said the accident occurred just before 5 a.m. at 125 E. 3300 South, near the Century Theaters complex. The man reportedly was riding his motorized wheelchair along the side of the road, against traffic and in the pre-dawn darkness, when he was hit.

The man was taken to the hospital for a precautionary examination but was later reported to have suffered only minor injuries, the dispatcher said.

No citations were immediately issued as the investigation was ongoing, however, police said the man had been contacted about riding in traffic before — as recently as Wednesday night.
