Mike Lee had a tele-town hall meeting tonight (Oct. 9) where he spoke of a proposal, passed by the House, which would partially open the government by funding selected areas the Republicans felt were important. Not Obamacare. The Democrats refused the proposal.

He likened the Democrats' position to "... if you went to the grocery store and, after gathering your food, the cashier would not allow you to buy any food unless you also bought some plutonium for a nuclear bomb."

Mr. Lee's analogy would better illustrate the Republicans' proposal if it were modified to:

"Your family is hungry because your home is short on food. You refuse to go to the store, believing the price of milk (call it Obama-milk) is far too costly. Your solution is to feed only SOME of your children — those you feel are important — and let the others just wait ... indefinitely. Furthermore, you won't feed those specific children until the price of milk is lowered."

Many thousands of families are suffering financial loss and great anxiety every day. If you really care about all people, Mr. Lee, call for a clean CR vote. Then negotiate.
