The LDS Church on Friday confirmed its second missionary death of the week and the 12th of this year.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said that 18-year-old Andrew Edward Page, of Charlotte, N.C., died of injuries after being hit by a car while he was riding his bicycle in Azusa, Calif., on Thursday.
Police were still investigating the crash and had not released much detail about it. In a news release, the department says that Page had sustained major injuries, including head trauma, and was taken in a helicopter to a local trauma center.
"Elder Andrew Edward Page [had been] serving in the California Arcadia Mission since August," spokeswoman Ruth Todd said. "Every church member is deeply saddened and grieves at the death of a missionary. We unite our prayers and love in behalf of Elder Page's family, friends and missionary companions."
On Wednesday, Elder Colt Daniel Kunz, 20, of Victor, Idaho, came into contact with a live electrical wire on a building roof and was electrocuted. That death occurred in the Mexico Tampico Mission area, where Kunz had been serving for less than a month.
