One suspect arrested, another at large in Taylorsville home robbery

Police arrested one man Friday in a botched home invasion robbery in Taylorsville that left another man dead, but another suspect remains at large.

South Salt Lake and Unified Police on Friday were able to determine that a robbery and shooting that left Nicholas T. Monte, of South Salt Lake, dead occurred at a home in Taylorsville at approximately 5300 South and 3200 West. Monte and three other men allegedly forced their way into the home Wednesday shortly before 9 p.m., intent on robbing the homeowner of money and drugs.

Someone inside the home shot Monte, 23, as the men entered. The men then fled and took Monte to Pioneer Valley Hospital, where he died from a gunshot wound in the chest.

Police later arrested Geno Alex Gonzalez, 22, of Salt Lake City, on aggravated burglary and obstruction of justice charges. On Friday night, detectives arrested Jose M. Mendoza, 22, of West Valley City, on aggravated burglary and obstruction of justice charges.

Police were still looking for Alfred Gomez, 34. identified as the fourth suspect in the home invasion robbery. Anyone with information about Gomez's whereabouts is asked to call Unified Police Department at 801-743-5844.
