A man found beaten and kicked on a Cedar City sidewalk Wednesday morning has died from his injuries, police said.

Cedar City police said Bryan Mahue Mellor, 59, of Cedar City, died Saturday from injuries inflicted during the assault.

Police found Mellor bloodied and unconscious on a sidewalk outside an apartment complex at 468 S. 75 West about 8:10 a.m. Wednesday.

Mellor had been on life support since Wednesday at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Police arrested Mellor's alleged attacker, acquaintance Brandon Sappington, 30, on suspicion of attempted murder, assault on a police officer, interference with arrest and an unrelated misdemeanor traffic warrant. Police said now that Mellor has died, additional charges may be filed by the Iron County Attorney's Office.

It wasn't clear what precipitated the assault.
