Driver survives after car hit by two trains Sunday in Woods Cross

A 29-year-old woman was lucky to be alive Sunday after her vehicle went under some railroad crossing arms and collided with not one, but two trains.

Woods Cross Detective Adam Osoro said officers were responding to a domestic violence call near 2300 South and Redwood Road about 8:20 a.m. when they spotted a vehicle believed to have been involved and tried to stop it.

Osoro said the driver fled at speeds topping 100 mph eastbound on 2600 South.

When she reached 2600 South and 1050 West just moments later, Osoro said, the woman drove under the crossing arms and collided with the side of a southbound train going through the intersection.

The impact then bounced the vehicle onto another track.

As officers tried to get the pinned woman out, a second southbound train arrived about 30 seconds later and struck the vehicle, forcing the officers to leap out of the way to avoid being struck too, Osoro said.

Rescue crews extracted the woman and took her to a hospital for treatment. Osoro said she was expected to survive, but would likely be cited with felony evading arrest upon her release.
