U.S. Highway 89 closed north of Lagoon for a few hours while crews cleaned spilled asphalt from a crashed dump truck.
The dump truck was traveling north on Interstate 15, but for some reason the driver veered to the right as it came to the Highway 89 split, said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Lawrence Hopper. The truck went into the gore area, which caused it to fall over onto the passenger side, Hopper said.
The 53-year-old driver was treated and released at the scene, though his 33-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries.
The truck was hauling asphalt, all of which dumped onto the road, Hopper said. Crews kept the north lanes of Highway 89 closed at the split until about 1 p.m.
