Utah Department of Natural Resources officials have announced that Dick Buehler will be retiring as director of the state Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands in mid-December.

Buehler's career as a state employee started in 1973 when he worked at East Canyon State Park as a boating ranger. His career duties included law enforcement and wildfire investigation before he was named deputy director and eventually director of the state agency.

"This has not been an easy decision as I look back over four decades of coming to work in a career that I have loved," Buehler said in a news release.  "I must say that I would do it all over again if I had the chance."
