A Wyoming man was repeatedly and fatally struck as he attempted to walk across State Road 189 near Vivian Park in Provo Canyon.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said that Joseph Broadbent, 74, of Evanston, Wyo., was dead at the scene of the accident about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Broadbent had stopped his fifth wheel trailer-hauling Dodge pickup truck on the right, eastbound shoulder at mile post 12 to change a flat tire. He was walking across the highway when he was struck first by a Honda Accord and then an Isuzu pickup truck.

Neither of those vehicles' drivers were injured.

The accident remained under investigation on Wednesday.
