A 1-year-old boy remained in critical but improving condition Wednesday, five days after being found unconscious in an irrigation ditch.

"I understand doctors are slowly bring him out of the [medically induced] coma and he's showing progress," Morgan County Chief Deputy Sheriff Kevin Edwards said. "He also continues to respond to his mother's voice."

The child was flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City Saturday afternoon. He had wandered away from his family's home on Stoddard Lane in Weber Canyon about 11:30 a.m. Saturday and then found a short time later in the ditch, which was partially filled with water.
