So, Utah's independent voice now recommends to the state's homosexual community that it file joint income tax returns, a clear violation of law, with the expectation that no one will be caught ("Utah gay couples should ignore tax commission, file jointly," Our View, Oct. 16). Great. Apparently the Utah Tax Commission has either inept or inattentive employees who will be blind to the ruse.

The Tribune's zealous defense of gay rights seems to have evolved to the point where anything goes, including brazenly flouting law it deems to be unfair and discriminatory. So much for due process.

I doubt a newspaper's community responsibility extends to the interpretation of law, which the public may now disregard at the paper's suggestion. We are a nation governed by the rule of law, not a rogue society where the loudest voice gains the advantage of the debate.

The Tribune needs to take a deep breath and remember its place in Utah, like it or not.
